Sue Holderness Reveals Final Words To John Challis Before Death

Sue Holderness, who played Marlene alongside John Challis in Only Fools and Horses, has shared the final words her co-star told her before his death at age 79. Challis, best known for his role as Boycie, died peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with cancer, his family confirmed.

Holderness described Challis as her 'beloved friend' and said 'Marlene without Boycie - it's unthinkable.' She added that they had been partners on screen and stage for 36 years, and that she would miss him every day.

Jeff Nicholson, the actor playing Boycie in the Only Fools and Horses musical, said Challis told him to 'carry the torch for us' shortly before his death. Nicholson noted that Challis had given the cast his 'seal of approval' when the show premiered in February.

Co-star Sir David Jason paid tribute, calling Challis 'a wonderful actor' and 'a gentleman in the true sense of the word.' Other tributes came from Steven Woodcock, who played Jevon, and actress Crissy Rock, who said she was heartbroken.

Challis's family said he 'will always be loved for being Boycie' and leaves a great legacy of work that will continue to bring pleasure and smiles for many years to come.
