Chris Robshaw has reportedly reported a female stalker to police after she allegedly threatened him with violence and spread false allegations, with friends saying the ordeal nearly led him to quit Strictly Come Dancing before it began.
The former England rugby captain met the woman twice at work events last year, with abuse beginning six months after their first encounter. The woman is said to appear on the National Police Wanted List and is believed to have left the country.
A spokesperson for Robshaw said: “This is an ongoing police investigation, and therefore we are unable to comment at this time. Chris will not be commenting further.” Friends said the BBC is aware of the situation and has been supporting him.
“Chris almost turned down Strictly because of what this woman has been putting him and his family through,” a friend told the Sun. “She’s made some disgusting threats. It has been awful for them.” They added that Robshaw and his wife Camilla are not alone, and the woman has done this to others.
Robshaw retired from professional rugby in 2022 and was announced as part of the Strictly cast on Wednesday. Speaking about joining, he said: “This is about as far out of my comfort zone as it gets! I’m hoping to take my dad dancing to a whole new level.”
