Former Hollyoaks star Stephanie Davis has revealed she now "really believes in God" and is depending on her faith to further her acting career, more than a decade after being axed from the Channel 4 soap.
The 33-year-old actress, who played Sinead O'Connor on the show, had her contract "terminated with immediate effect" in 2015 after arriving on set "unfit for work," still drunk from the previous night. She reprised her role in 2018, left again in 2020, and joined Coronation Street for a short stint in 2023.
Faith and Future Plans
Stephanie, who has a son Caben-Albi, nine, with former partner Jeremy O'Connell, and Samuel, 19 months, with ex-partner Joe McKalroy, is now looking ahead. She said: "[I] just [want] to maintain this peaceful, happy, grateful attitude that I've got towards life, and making sure my kids are happy. Now I'm off maternity leave, I really believe in God and for him to place something when it's the right time, and a really good drama for me to do that, I'll hopefully relate to other people to help them."
Speaking to Metro, she added: "There's not much I can ask for. I've got everything that I really need. I have a vision board as well; I'm big on vision boards. I have a picture of Jimmy McGovern in the middle and a little one of Stephen Graham as well."
Early Fame and Career
Stephanie first gained public attention in her late teens on Andrew Lloyd Webber's BBC talent show Over the Rainbow, which sought an unknown to play Dorothy in a West End production of The Wizard of Oz. Danielle Hope won the series, but Stephanie found immediate TV success when she joined Hollyoaks just months after her elimination.
She later appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2018 alongside John Partridge, who had mentored her as a judge on Over the Rainbow, as well as Gemma Collins, David Gest, and Danniella Westbrook. It was there she formed a relationship with Jeremy, though they split permanently less than a year after leaving the house.
Reflections and Future Roles
Reflecting on her early years of fame, Stephanie explained that growing up is "hard enough" without the added pressures of doing so in the public eye. She added: "I believe that everything happens for a reason, and that was my path. I did fantastic work at Hollyoaks; I was nominated for so many awards, had some fantastic storylines, but for someone so young, it was just all a bit too full on for me. It's different when you grow up and you're a woman, and you have your own kids, and you reflect back to when you were younger."
Just days ago, Stephanie admitted that having been in two of the nation's soaps, she would like to tick the rest off her list. She told the Daily Star: "The next project that I do, I want it to be a completely different type of character. I'd love to go back to Corrie but then I also watch EastEnders and Emmerdale and I think I may as well tick them off the list. People do [move round], you see it, don't you?"
