About the Musical
Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera musical by Oscar-winning theatre impresario Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by acclaimed songwriter Tim Rice. The Olivier Award-winning production recounts the last seven days of Jesus’ life from the perspective of Judas Iscariot. It has returned to the West End for a limited summer run with singer-songwriter Sam Ryder at the helm as the titular character.
Ryder is best known for representing the UK at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, and his starring role as the humanised, emotionally conflicted Jesus Christ marks his West End debut. The show features a rotation of actors who will each take turns playing the role of comedic ruler King Herod, with Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and singer Boy George among those who will play the flamboyant king. Actor and comedian Julian Clary, Bad Education star Layton Williams, and Richard Armitage will also play the role.
Celebrity Attendees
Armitage, who was among the celebrities at the opening night on Tuesday, wore a navy pinstripe suit, which he dressed down with a white t-shirt. He was joined by Saltburn star Grant, who was all smiles in a summery blue linen shirt paired with black trousers. Havers, best known for Chariots of Fire (1981), looked sharp in a navy suit, while soap star Conley opted for a white t-shirt, a black jacket, and jeans.
American actor Dinklage, best known for his award-winning role in fantasy series Game of Thrones, wore an all-black ensemble comprising a t-shirt, jacket, and jeans. Comedian Jones wore a white dress with a red and pink floral pattern. Celebrity Traitors star and comedian Nick Mohammed, former Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli, TV presenter Myleene Klass, and actor Gary Wilmot were also among the stars in attendance.
They were joined by Benidorm's Steve Pemberton, actor and TV personality Christopher Biggins, and pop group Remember Monday, who represented the UK at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber was also among those braving the heatwave to attend the event, looking summery in a beige and cream-coloured outfit, while comedian Mel Giedroyc wore a simple white button-down maxi dress.
