The director of the latest Spider-Man film has praised Scots for their welcoming energy during filming in Glasgow last summer. Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Spider-Man: Brand New Day, said the people of Glasgow 'knew how to party' and made the experience wonderful.
Glasgow Transformed into New York City
Last summer, many streets in Glasgow were transformed into bustling New York City for the film. Some of the most exciting action scenes were shot in the city, including parts of the opening sequence. Marvel fans flocked to Glasgow to catch a glimpse of the action.
The film, the fourth installment in the franchise starring Tom Holland, was released on July 29. It follows Peter Parker navigating the world alone after casting a spell to make everyone forget his identity.
Director Praises Warmth and Energy
Speaking at the London premiere on July 29, Cretton said: 'I love Scotland. I got to go to Scotland first ages ago with a short film to the Edinburgh Film Festival and I fell in love with that place.' He added that shooting in Glasgow was 'energising' and that 'thousands of people showed up cheering us on.'
Producer Amy Pascal also praised Scotland, calling everything about the country 'great' and noting it was 'wonderful to make movies in the real places.'
Scots Know How to Party
Cretton highlighted the people of Glasgow as a reason he would happily return. He said: 'The people in Glasgow, in particular, were so warm and welcoming and fun and knew how to party and have a good time.'
Many Scottish fans have already given the film rave reviews, enjoying spotting Glasgow streets disguised as New York. Glasgow will also be used for the upcoming sequel to The Batman, with streets set to become Gotham City next month.
