Fans and bandmates have paid tribute to Andrew Metcalfe, the lead singer of Liverpool rock band Sound of Guns, following his death. The announcement was made on the band’s official Facebook page on October 29, with members expressing their heartbreak and condolences to his family.
Sound of Guns formed in Liverpool in 2008, featuring Metcalfe alongside Lee Glynn, Nathan Crowley, John Coley and Simon Finley. The group rose to prominence in the late 2000s with their powerful live performances and anthemic sound, before taking a permanent hiatus in 2013.
In a heartfelt statement, the band described Metcalfe as “one of the greatest frontmen to ever grace a stage”. They praised his presence, songwriting and distinctive voice, adding: “A true artist, performer, lyricist and just a genuinely lovely man.” They noted that his music and lyrics had touched many people, and thanked fans for their tributes.
Readers of the Liverpool Echo also shared their memories. Sharon Halliwell said Metcalfe was “a one in a million” and “an inspiration to us all”. Christine Curran recalled seeing the band live many times, praising his powerful vocals and approachable nature. Jo Smith remembered him as “a funny, loud and crazy soul” from when they met at age 15.
During their active years, Sound of Guns earned critical acclaim, performing at major festivals and releasing two albums: What Came From Fire (2010) and Angels and Enemies (2012). The band signed off with: “Rock in peace brother. Your voice and music lives on forever.”
