Snoop Dogg has faced a wave of criticism after revealing that a scene featuring a same-sex couple in the Pixar film Lightyear left him "scared to go to the movies" and unable to answer his grandson's questions about same-sex relationships.
In the 2022 animated film, a montage shows Buzz Lightyear's friend Alisha Hawthorne meeting, falling in love with, and raising a child alongside a crew member named Kiko. The couple share a brief kiss at their son's graduation.
During an appearance on the It's Giving podcast, the rapper recalled his grandson's confusion, saying the child asked how a woman could have a baby with another woman. Snoop said he did not "have an answer for" the questions and questioned whether such content should be shown to children, adding, "They're going to ask questions. I don't have the answer."
The podcast later released the clip in a separate upload, claiming the section was "mistakenly edited" from the main episode. However, viewers accused the show of intentionally removing the comments, pointing out that trimming a video requires manual effort.
Several people, including singer Boy George, responded publicly. Boy George wrote on X that children cannot be turned gay by helping them understand that some people are different, adding, "You are born gay, just like you are born black or anything else." Others referenced Snoop's 2004 cameo in the lesbian drama The L Word, questioning his reaction.
The film was banned in multiple countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar over its depiction of a same-sex relationship.
