Scarlett Moffatt Defends Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury Over Midas Baby Name
Scarlett Moffatt Defends Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury's Baby Name Midas

Scarlett Moffatt has come to the defence of Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury after the couple faced criticism for naming their newborn son Midas. The former Love Island star and boxer welcomed their second child recently, joining their daughter Bambi. The name was revealed when Tommy wore shorts emblazoned with 'Midas' during his fight against Eddie Hall.

Scarlett's Support for the Unique Name

In an exclusive interview with the Mirror to promote her new Freely World Cup campaign, the Gogglebox star, who is pregnant with her second child, shared her admiration for the choice. 'If I was having a little girl, I think the name would have been out there a bit more,' she said. 'I love - I can never pronounce it - Molly-Mae's baby's name, Midas. I love that, I think it's so different.'

Scarlett added that given the couple's massive following, their child is destined for the spotlight. 'Also when you've got that many followers, that kid is going to be in showbiz, let's be honest. The name, it's going to suit… The kid is going places with Tommy and Molly-Mae as their parents. They need a name like that!'

Molly-Mae's Tease Before the Birth

Before giving birth, Molly-Mae had hinted that fans might struggle with the name. In a vlog, she said, 'I just feel like people are going to say it wrong because when I mention the name to a few people or I've spelt it out because I have this big complex about people saying it wrong. Then a few of my friends have said it completely wrong - absolutely not how you pronounce it. I think people are going to be a bit disappointed, upon reflection I don't think it's that crazy.'

Scarlett's Own Baby Journey

Scarlett, who is expecting her second child with fiancé Scott Dobinson, announced the pregnancy in April with an adorable video. 'We honestly can't believe we're writing this… After everything, we feel unbelievably lucky to be able to say… our family is growing,' she wrote. 'One little miracle gave us Jude, and now he's going to be a big brother. And if there's one thing we know for certain, it's that he is going to be the most amazing big brother.'

The couple already have a three-year-old son, Jude, born in June 2023. Scarlett revealed that Jude's name was inspired by Jude Law, not footballer Jude Bellingham. She also shared that they have three potential names for the new baby, including one with a football theme. 'One of the names we had to cancel out because Jude couldn't pronounce it properly. I was like, 'No, that'll get on my nerves, that's a sign.' But we keep trying to use it in different situations to see which one feels natural.'

Family Naming Traditions

Scarlett explained her family's naming approach: 'I'm named after Scarlett O'Hara, and my middle name is my dad's favourite movie, Alien. So my middle name is Sigourney, after Sigourney Weaver. We did the same with Jude, so Jude is called Jude Xavier because I picked Jude from The Holiday and Scott picked Xavier from Professor X in some Marvel thing.' She added, 'Luckily I get to pick the first name and Scott picks the middle one, but I don't know, I quite like old classic names.'
