Sam Thompson has been flooded with praise from fans after revealing he is donating all profits from his first book to ADHD UK. The TV, radio and podcast presenter shared the news in a new social media video, saying the project "wasn't about the money."
Book sales and donation revealed
In the clip posted on Instagram, Sam explained that he had sold 13,000 copies of You, Me & ADHD, which was released last month. He said: "I can finally tell you the last part of the plan. A few months ago, I released my book, You, Me and ADHD, and since then, with 13,000 copies sold, thousands of messages and incredible messages, I can finally tell you the last part of the plan. I made an incredible £24,000 from the book. I'm donating all of it to ADHD UK. This has never been about money to me, and when I started writing You, Me and ADHD, I just wanted to talk honestly about my own experiences and hopefully make people feel a little bit less alone. The response has honestly been incredible."
Raising awareness for ADHD
The former Made in Chelsea star, who was diagnosed with ADHD at 30 and later with Autism, has been using his platform to raise awareness of the condition. His book aims to help others who receive the same diagnosis. On release day, he shared a video of himself reading parts of the book, saying: "Here it is. You, me and ADHD is out today, and I couldn't be more excited/nervous. This has been a long time in the making, and is probably the thing I'm most proud of. If just one kid reads this and understands themselves better, then I am over the moon."
He added: "This is the book I wish I had when I was younger, and to be honest, I wish my parents could have had it as well. Thank you so much for the support you have given me over the years. You are my family, and the community we have built together is so special. You're special. You're super, love Sam."
Charity support and fan reaction
In his latest video, clips of children sharing their thank-you messages were played, and Sam said: "That just means so much to me. But I also wanted the book to do something beyond the pages. ADHD UK is a small charity that doesn't get any Government funding and it only runs off of public donations, so this is huge..."
