Coronation Street star Sair Khan has publicly praised her real-life partner, Nathan Chilton, after he completed the gruelling Peak District Ultra Challenge, a 75km trek, following a health battle that required him to learn to walk again.
Nathan's Health Journey
Nathan Chilton, 39, from Stockport, was diagnosed with chondroblastoma, a very rare non-cancerous bone tumour, in 2013 after experiencing groin pain. An MRI scan revealed a squash-ball-sized lesion, which was surgically removed. However, the tumour returned years later, necessitating more extensive surgery. In 2022, Nathan underwent an internal hemipelvectomy, an eight-hour operation that removed 75 per cent of the right side of his pelvis, replaced with a titanium plate. He spent three weeks at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham and had to retrain himself to walk post-surgery. Additionally, doctors discovered the tumour had spread to his lungs, though the nodules are now stable, with no recurrence in his pelvis.
The Ultra Challenge
Over the weekend, Nathan took on the Peak District Ultra Challenge, completing over 100,000 steps and walking 73km in under 24 hours. He raised £6,000 for Sarcoma UK, a charity supporting research and awareness of sarcomas. Nathan described hiking as an 'outlet' during his health struggles that 'changed his perspective on life'.
Sair Khan's Support
Sair Khan, who plays Alya Nazir on the ITV soap, shared her pride on Instagram Stories, posting a picture of Nathan at the finish line with the caption: 'You did it!!! Our hero!' She later shared a photo of them enjoying coffee, writing: 'A well-earned rest day and coffee @njchilton @themissionplanet @sarcoma_uk.'
Family Life
Sair and Nathan welcomed their first child, a son, in May 2024. Sair kept her pregnancy largely private but announced his arrival on social media, saying: 'He’s here! ... Our little boy is just marvellous. Very serious and curious about the world. He’s super strong and so resilient for joining me on the absolute rollercoaster that was our 22 hours of labour.' The couple have not publicly shared their son's name.
