Patsy Kensit made her highly-anticipated return as Sadie King in Wednesday's episode of Emmerdale, arriving via helicopter at the scene of Jimmy King's fatal crash. As Nicola King, Laurel Thomas and Charity Dingle paid their respects, Sadie laid a single red rose at the site, leaving the locals floored.
Sadie claimed she had returned simply to pay her respects, but later in the episode she exposed an explosive claim: that she had been seeing Jimmy for the past three years in an affair, leaving the village in doubt over whether she was telling the truth.
Sadie King's First Arrival and Marriage to Jimmy
First introduced in 2004, Sadie moved to Emmerdale alongside then husband Jimmy, whom she married in 1990, and the rest of the King family. Much like her 2026 return, Sadie made her first appearance via a helicopter.
It soon became clear their marriage was in jeopardy as Sadie had begun taking contraceptive injections behind Jimmy's back to ensure she wouldn't fall pregnant. Jimmy, who desperately wanted a family, discovered Sadie's betrayal and asked for a divorce. During the tumultuous time, Sadie began an affair with Robert Sugden and later Cain Dingle.
Schemes, Betrayals and the King Family Fallout
Sadie had it in for her father-in-law Tom King's fiancée Charity Tate, whom she didn't trust, and started scheming to make sure she never became part of the family. She exposed Charity's secret relationship with her cousin Cain, using Cain to frame Charity. In retaliation, Charity seduced Jimmy, exposing the state of their marriage to the village in dramatic scenes. As a result, Tom disowned both Jimmy and Sadie.
Scheming with Cain, Sadie purchased land the Kings wanted for their development and blackmailed her way back into the company, even persuading Zoe Tate to sell Home Farm to Tom. Tom then attempted to make a move on Sadie, but she refused his advances.
It was then revealed that Sadie and Jimmy's brother, Matthew King, had been sleeping together before Sadie married Jimmy. Sadie had picked Jimmy over Matthew as she thought he would inherit the family business and money. The duo sparked up their romance once again, but before Matthew got his hands on the business, Jimmy exposed their affair.
Revenge, Kidnap and Departure
A furious Tom gave Matthew an ultimatum: either pick Sadie or the company. He picked the latter, leaving Sadie devastated. Sadie then found her next victim, Alasdair Sinclair, but their short-lived marriage nearly didn't go ahead thanks to Alasdair's suspicious mother, Rosemary, and Matthew vowing his love for Sadie.
Matthew gave up his part in the business to reunite with Sadie but was disowned by his family and brothers. Wanting revenge, Sadie asked Cain to vandalise the King's latest project, the King River Show Home, by promising to sleep with him again, which she later revoked. Cain drove into the home, badly damaging it, and Dawn Woods, Noreen Bell and David Brown died in the explosion. Meanwhile, Sadie left Jimmy for dead in the rubble.
After learning Sadie was responsible for the incident, Matthew ended their relationship and Sadie became determined to seek revenge on the King family. Enlisting Cain once again, she planned to kidnap Tom. However, Cain betrayed Sadie as he abducted them both and left with £2,000,000. This resulted in Sadie and Cain bidding farewell where he left in a private jet and Sadie was just left with his BMW car.
Emmerdale continues on weekdays at 8pm on ITV and ITVX.
