Sabrina Washington has denied leaving Mis-Teeq or blindsiding bandmates Alesha Dixon and Su-Elise Nash, despite her team sending a press release that used the term "split" in connection with her upcoming solo shows.
Last week, Mis-Teeq — made up of Sabrina, Alesha and Su-Elise — reunited for a Wembley show celebrating their 25th anniversary. Days later, a press release was circulated saying: "Mis-Teeq split 1 week after sold out Wembley reunion, as Sabrina Washington announces tour."
Bandmates React to Split News
The news reportedly came as a shock to the other two members. Su-Elise wrote on Instagram that the split was "news to me", adding: "To find out that a press release went out to media today saying ‘Mis-Teeq have split’ has taken me by surprise." A spokesperson for the group said both Su-Elise and Alesha were "blindsided".
During an interview on Good Morning Britain, Sabrina denied saying "split" and denied that a press release was sent. She said: "I have not said split in any way, shape or form. That has not come from me. What's happened is this: We had an amazing show for our anniversary, which was filled with love, filled with good energy and there was nothing planned. There has been nothing else planned after that."
One Night Only
Sabrina added: "I would never say no to another Mis-Teeq show ever, because I have never ever said no to a Mis-Teeq show. I love the girls. So it may still be something that could happen becuase I've never said no and I've never said split."
Host Susanna Reid said Alesha and Su-Elise were "shocked" to hear that Mis-Teeq weren't "back together permanently". In response, Sabrina said: "Remember, we got together for a One Night Stand for our 25th anniversary. It was only ever one night."
Mis-Teeq's team had previously confirmed that the concert was initially intended to be just one night, but that the girls had been "bombarded" with offers due to its success and were supposed to have a meeting about doing more shows in 2027.
Denial and Aftermath
Tom Swarbrick read a statement from a spokesperson for Mis-Teeq, again saying that a press release had been issued by Sabrina's team announcing the band's split without telling Alesha or Su-Elise. "Wrong," Sabrina said. "That's what I'm saying. I didn't do a press release at all. I've not said anything about the girls and the group, I don't do that. Sabrina doesn't talk. She's a person that doesn't really talk. Sabrina, this Sabrina sitting down here, the one in Mis-Teeq. I don't talk like that."
She also said that Alesha congratulated her on her solo shows and that her bandmate was "fine". She hadn't heard from Su-Elise but blamed that on location differences.
Susanna asked Sabrina what she "blamed" the situation on, calling it scandalous, to which Sabrina said: "It definitely is scandalous because I've said nothing on top of more nothing on top of more nothing. I love the girls."
A source close to Sabrina spoke to the Mirror, claiming that she was "badgered" during the interview. They said: "It wasn't her fault. It became clear that Kemi Badenoch was running four minutes late for her slot on the sofa. Susanna was grilling Sabrina about the Mis-Teeq news but Sabrina was there to talk about her upcoming tour."
The source added: "Susanna kept badgering and Sabrina stammered Mis-Teeq had only signed for the one night at Wembley show. Yes, there were talks about other events in the future but it didn't align, so nothing was agreed or finalised." The Mirror reached out to Sabrina's representatives, as well as Susanna's team and to Good Morning Britain for comment.
