Rylan Clark has joked he will 'cry myself to sleep' after his co-stars gave mixed reactions to his dramatic transformation. The BBC Radio 2 presenter, 37, revealed a significant alteration to his appearance, but one colleague's instant verdict was 'I'm not sure.'
Rylan's New Look
Rylan recently chopped off his hair, which he concealed beneath a baseball cap in the studio. He quipped that the startled responses from his workmates mean he will 'cry myself to sleep.' Sally Boazman, who delivers travel updates on Rylan's programme, was immediately struck by the dramatic shift. Upon learning the news, she remarked: 'I'm not sure. I love it when it was flowing.'
Sally's assessment prompted Rylan to quip: 'Are you not? Thanks Sal. Filled me with confidence. It's just got to the point where I thought why not? Sally hates it, I can tell by her face.'
Co-Stars' Reactions
Another colleague mentioned she was getting 'army vibes' from the fresh haircut, allowing the presenter to jest 'Saving Private Rylan' in a nod to the blockbuster Hollywood film. Someone else observed the transformation makes Rylan resemble French footballer Olivier Giroud even more. One of his co-presenters then recalled how a recent visitor compared Rylan to one of the puppets from Thunderbirds.
The DJ concluded the segment by stating: 'You know what, I feel really good about myself. I just thought I was going to have a change, shows you shouldn't really doesn't it? Sally screwed her face up at me. Let's meet today's first contestant before I cry myself to sleep.'
Later during the programme, two listeners, David and Ian, sent messages to the show saying: 'Hi Rylan, really looking forward to seeing the new haircut,' to which Rylan responded: 'I totally forgot I'd done it.'
Mum's Embarrassing Request
This follows Rylan's mum Linda pleading with him to 'stop' after he revealed an 'embarrassing' incident live on air. The former X Factor star frequently invites his mum to join him on his BBC Radio 2 Saturday show. During one particular episode, Rylan recounted a hilarious story about the build-up to a family wedding.
Linda was due to attend their cousin Christopher's ceremony and had a rather unusual request for her son on the big day. Rylan shared the request with his Radio 2 audience, prompting Linda to plead with him to 'stop' before he divulged the 'embarrassing' moment.
As Rylan began telling the story, Linda interjected: 'No, stop it's embarrassing.' Rylan pushed back, replying: 'It's not embarrassing, I think it's quite fun.' He went on: 'I want to prelude this with we're very normal. This is the world my mum lives in. So she's going to a wedding yesterday, our cousin Christopher, congratulations to the pair of them. And she goes: Are you near a Chanel? And I go: I'm at the flat at the minute, what's wrong? You can't pop in there and pick me up a gold bag? I said: Sorry? And she went: Yeah, like a little one you bought me last year. And I say: The black one that you never use? And I say: Sorry, mum do you know how much a Chanel bag costs?' Linda then pleaded with her son to stop recounting the tale, saying: 'Please don't tell everyone.'
