BBC Radio 2 presenter Rylan Clark has joked that he will 'cry myself to sleep' after a colleague gave a less than enthusiastic reaction to his dramatic new look. The 37-year-old host recently had his hair cropped short, concealing it beneath a baseball cap upon arriving at the studio.
Colleagues React to Rylan's New Look
Traffic reporter Sally Boazman was visibly taken aback upon discovering the transformation. She said: 'I'm not sure. I love it when it was flowing.' Sally's candid response prompted Rylan to quip: 'Are you not? Thanks Sal. Filled me with confidence. It's just got to the point where I thought why not? Sally hates it, I can tell by her face.'
Another colleague remarked she was getting 'army vibes' from the fresh cut, giving Rylan the perfect opportunity to jest 'Saving Private Rylan' in a nod to the iconic Hollywood blockbuster. Yet another suggested the new style made Rylan bear an even stronger resemblance to French footballer Olivier Giroud, while a further co-star recalled how a recent guest had compared him to one of the puppets from Thunderbirds.
Rylan's Humorous Response
The DJ wrapped up the segment by saying: 'You know what, I feel really good about myself. I just thought I was going to have a change, shows you shouldn't really doesn't it? Sally screwed her face up at me. Let's meet today's first contestant before I cry myself to sleep.'
Later in the programme, two listeners, David and Ian, messaged the show to say: 'Hi Rylan, really looking forward to seeing the new haircut,' before Rylan added: 'I totally forgot I'd done it.'
Previous Embarrassing Moment with Mum Linda
This follows an incident in which Rylan's mum Linda pleaded with him to 'stop' after he revealed an 'embarrassing' moment live on air. The former X Factor contestant frequently invites his mother to join him on his BBC Radio 2 programme on Saturdays. During one such appearance, Rylan recounted an amusing anecdote about the events surrounding a family wedding.
Linda had been attending their cousin Christopher's nuptials and had a rather particular request for her son on the wedding day. Rylan shared the story with his Radio 2 audience, prompting Linda to beg him to 'stop' before he disclosed the 'embarrassing' moment. As Rylan relayed the tale, Linda interjected: 'No, stop it's embarrassing.'
Rylan disagreed, saying: 'It's not embarrassing, I think it's quite fun.' He went on: 'I want to prelude this with we're very normal. This is the world my mum lives in. So she's going to a wedding yesterday, our cousin Christopher, congratulations to the pair of them. And she goes: Are you near a Chanel? And I go: I'm at the flat at the minute, what's wrong? You can't pop in there and pick me up a gold bag? I said: Sorry? And she went: Yeah, like a little one you bought me last year. And I say: The black one that you never use? And I say: Sorry, mum do you know how much a Chanel bag costs?' Linda then pleaded with her son to stop short of finishing the tale, saying: 'Please don't tell everyone.'
