Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con, sitting in the audience disguised in a full denim version of his Deadpool costume - a fresh take on the Canadian tuxedo. The 49-year-old actor, who has portrayed Wade Wilson since 2009, was handed a microphone and quickly recognised by fans.
His voice gave him away as he teased his potential inclusion in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. He said: "Look around you. Did you bump your head? ... I see. So there’s no additional photography, no overages, maybe last-minute additions...?”
Ryan Reynolds hints at Avengers: Doomsday role
The Deadpool star has previously hinted that his time as the Merc with a Mouth is not over. In April, he posted on social media: "There’s a few really deep cuts that are missing from the movies, I think there’s a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics. There’s certainly some stuff that I love that Fabian [Nicieza] wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan is a friend and an incredible comic book writer. There’s stuff coming, there eventually will be another Deadpool film.”
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to bring together characters from Thor, Captain America, the X-Men and more. Reynolds' Deadpool may join the crowded lineup.
Ryan Gosling joins Marvel as Ghost Rider
Reynolds is not the only Canadian Ryan making waves in the MCU. Ryan Gosling was announced as Ghost Rider in a standalone movie, directed by Shawn Levy, who previously directed Deadpool & Wolverine and the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter.
Levy told the Comic-Con crowd: "I’m having the greatest flashback vibes here, because I was here two years ago when we showed Deadpool & Wolverine. I’ll never forget that night, because I was introduced to the greatest fans." He added: "Gosling is the absolute s**t. I say that with tremendous respect. We spent a lot of time last year making Starfighter, and the opportunity as Ryan started talking about this character, I was like, ‘Bro, let’s ride.’ We’ll see you in 2028!”
Nicolas Cage previously played Ghost Rider in 2007 and 2011 films, while Gabriel Luna portrayed the Robbie Reyes version on Agents of SHIELD. Luna was set to reprise the role in a Hulu series, but the project was cancelled in 2019.
Reynolds first played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), then in the R-rated Deadpool (2016) and its sequel (2018). Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), co-starring Hugh Jackman, grossed over one billion pounds at the box office.
