Rosie O'Donnell has revealed she missed her daughter's college graduation due to security concerns linked to her long-running feud with President Donald Trump. The 63-year-old actor and comedian, who moved to Ireland in January with her youngest child Clay, said her security team advised against attending the ceremony at the University of Delaware in May.
Speaking on the No Filter podcast, O'Donnell explained: 'My daughter graduated college and I didn't go back because the security people said to me they didn't think it was wise.' She added that she believed Trump would use her to 'rile his base'.
The feud escalated recently when Trump posted a distorted photograph of O'Donnell on social media, threatening to revoke her citizenship. O'Donnell responded on Instagram, comparing Trump to the fictional media mogul Logan Roy from the television series Succession.
O'Donnell's conflict with Trump dates back to 2006 when she was a host on The View. She claimed that Trump's rhetoric encouraged public harassment, saying: 'His ability to denigrate people and dismiss them and humiliate them encouraged other people to do the same.'
Despite the challenges, O'Donnell expressed gratitude for her new life in Ireland, describing the people as 'so loving and so kind, so welcoming'. She said the decision to leave the United States was emotionally taxing but ultimately the right one for her family.
