Romanian rapper Chica Con Canna, real name Gianina Gheorghiu, has died at the age of 37 following a heart attack. The artist, known for collaborations with Tony Batrânu, Vladone, and Mike Diamondz, passed away after a battle with alcohol addiction, according to close friend Dana Marijauna.
Dana Marijauna paid tribute in a heartfelt statement, saying: 'With tears in my eyes, with a fantastic love for Chica, who did not win the fight against alcohol. A girl with great talent, the best female voice and interpretation in English in the world of Romanian rap, soulful, generous, strong character. In vain, alcohol did not take into account all its countless qualities. We love you even in a billion years.'
Friend Tonik Obiektiv also shared his grief on social media, writing: 'Chica was and remains unique in her own way. Today we lost a valuable artist, a younger sister and a dear friend. Few understood it, many listened to it but too few appreciated it.'
Fans have also paid tribute, with one commenting: 'Poor thing was young, I loved the way she sings.' Another wrote: 'Our deepest condolences to the family!' Plans are underway to release posthumous projects in her honour.
