Robson Green on Divorce, Devastating Flood and Past Substance Abuse

Robson Green, best known for his roles in TV dramas such as Casualty, Soldier Soldier and Wire in the Blood, currently stars as Detective Inspector Geordie Keating in ITV's Grantchester. The 59-year-old actor has also presented shows like Robson Green's Weekend Escapes and Extreme Fishing, reflecting his passion for angling.

Born in Hexham, Northumberland, Green grew up in the mining village of Dudley in North Tyneside. He has two sisters and a brother. His real name is Robson Green, though he was born Robert Green; he changed it to Robson after his mother's maiden name.

Green married Alison Ogilvie in 1991, but they split in 1999. He later married former model Vanya Seager, whom he met while she was Simon Cowell's secretary during his pop duo days with Jerome Flynn. They had a son, Taylor, in 2000 and married in 2001, but divorced in 2013. He now lives with partner Zoila Short, whom he met at a gym, in Hexham. In a 2023 interview with The Times, Green said they are not considering marriage: 'No, I've done enough of that. We're very happy together.'

In 2015, Green's home—a 350-year-old ferryman's cottage—was devastated by flooding. He told Radio Times: 'My house was under seven feet of water... Everything precious and personal in my life, just washed away.' He described the event as 'the perfect storm' of heavy rain, a spring tide, and a dam release.

Green has also spoken about his struggles with alcohol and drugs during his time on Soldier Soldier. He sought therapy after his father asked if he was happy. He told the Mirror in 2001: 'I was a people pleaser... I needed help.' He added that therapy helped him discover who he was beyond his career.
