Julia Morris, who has hosted Channel Ten's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! Australia since 2015, is reportedly feeling overshadowed by her new co-host Robert Irwin, according to a TV insider who spoke to Daily Mail Australia.
The source claimed that the 55-year-old comedian is struggling to keep up with the 20-year-old's natural banter and energy, which has left her feeling fatigued. 'It is like when you agree to babysit your friend's kid and you pretend you love it until you don't,' the insider said.
Producers reportedly had Morris and Irwin spend two weeks together before filming to build chemistry, but the source suggested this may have backfired. 'Julia is running on empty and is struggling to keep up. Maybe having them live in each other's pockets like that wasn't such a good thing after all,' they added.
The insider noted that Irwin is used to performing multiple times a day at Australia Zoo, which gives him an edge. 'It is in his DNA to be engaging everyone in the back row... that kind of experience from such a young age has him doing laps around the usual shtick from Julia.'
The source also hinted at a possible exit for Morris, saying there is a 'dark cloud' that could see her leave the show at the end of the season. They added that Irwin could demand a significant pay rise, potentially complicating the relationship. Daily Mail Australia has contacted Morris for comment.
