Star Wars Actor Richard Donat Dies at 84, Eight Years After Brother Peter

Richard Donat, the actor who voiced a character in the 1985 Star Wars animated series Ewoks, has died at the age of 84. His family confirmed his death on March 28. Donat was best known for his role as Vince Teagues in the television series Haven (2010–2015), and also appeared in shows such as Little House on the Prairie, Trailer Park Boys, and Hemlock Grove.

Donat was the younger brother of Peter Donat, the actor who played Fox Mulder's father William in The X-Files. Peter died in 2018 at age 90. The brothers were nephews of English actor Robert Donat, famous for his role in Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps. Robert died at 53 from a brain tumour.

A resident of Nova Scotia, Canada, Donat appreciated that Haven was filmed near his home. He once said: 'I have always lived here and then this show comes along and suddenly your life is changed. It is quite extraordinary really.'

An obituary described him as 'a passionate gardener, a loving and supportive partner, a devoted father and an extremely proud grandfather.' It added: 'He will be missed but his presence will always be with us. He was a good man.'
