Radio 2 DJ Trevor Nelson reveals brain tumour battle

Radio 2 DJ Trevor Nelson has shared with fans that he has been battling a brain tumour following 'very serious surgery.'

After taking time off with an undisclosed health condition, he has now shared news of his diagnosis, reports The Mirror.

Trevor Nelson's shock diagnosis

"There's been a lot of speculation as to what's wrong with me, I know that much. My phone's blown up 20 times over with people asking what's wrong with me. I was minding my own business and then it was discovered I had a brain tumour," he said.

"As you can imagine, I was shocked. In fact, my world was turned upside down. Quite literally, my head was all over the place. I knew I had to stop work because I couldn't be that guy on the radio knowing I had that going on."

Recovery and return to work

The popular DJ has explained his absence from work after many were asking what had been wrong. And while he is back to the gym and golf, which are his two loves, he is still not back at work.

"Let's get that straight and back to that as soon as possible," he told his fans before reassuring them that he was on the mend and had planned to be back at work very soon.

Zoe Ball reacted by saying: "So good to see your face Trevor and learn that you're doing well. Huge healing love to you wonderful man."

Fearne Cotton added: "We love you Trev. So happy you're recovering well," with Clara Amfo sharing: "Thank God for your brilliant surgeons, you're meant to be here UT! Love you."

Trevor said he was feeling great now post-surgery and was taking the time to "recuperate and recover" after his operation.

Previous statement to fans

In June, he issued a statement to fans to confirm he would be off the radio for a while. "I wanted to let my followers, radio listeners and all my Soul Nation party-people know that I'm going to be taking a little break from my work commitments," he said.

"Some of you may already have noticed that I've not been on my daily Radio 2 slot this week. After a routine check-up I was advised to have some follow up tests. As a result, I will be taking some further time off."

"As I'm sure you can appreciate with health issues it's important to deal with facts and not speculate. So I'm concentrating on getting better, being back to 100% me and to getting back behind the mic and the decks. Trevor."

Trevor presents on Radio 2 every weekday between 2 and 4pm, and BBC Radio 1Xtra each Sunday, 11am to 1pm.
