A new study has found that over a quarter of men have admitted to "secretly enjoying" watching romance films with their partner. The poll revealed that half of those who view the pastime as a guilty pleasure would never tell their friends.
Couples bond over movie nights
Despite this, British couples watch four films a week together on average, with nine in ten believing the pastime brings them closer together. A large percentage of respondents also agreed that they enjoy participating in shared activities during movie night, such as eating snacks and holding hands.
Top guilty pleasure films
The results found that Pretty Woman and Bridget Jones's Diary topped the list of favourite 'top guilty pleasure watches', with Dirty Dancing, Notting Hill and Twilight rounding out the top five.
With the complete Twilight Saga set to be released on Netflix in the UK from September 11, it's likely that many couples will watch all editions together. New Moon, Breaking Dawn - Part 1, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn - Part 2 all ranking highly in the poll.
Men's preferences and habits
The poll of over 2,000 British people in relationships found that most men vote "Team Edward" (Robert Pattinson) as who they would prefer as Bella's love interest, with half agreeing that Bella made the right choice ending up with him. Of those men who love cuddling up to a romance, half would never let on to their mates that they watch and enjoy.
Other titles to hit the top 30 list of guilty pleasure watches include Mamma Mia!, Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, The Devil Wears Prada, Moulin Rouge and Legally Blonde. While 10% of boyfriends like to cry with their other half, a further 10% are even comfortable donning a face mask or receiving a pedicure with their favourite romance.
The poll was commissioned by Netflix, to celebrate the complete Twilight Saga being released on the streaming platform in the UK from Friday 11 September.
