With Netflix set to release its own adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice later this year, starring Jack Lowden and Emma Corrin, many fans are looking back at the beloved 1995 BBC version. Here's what the cast of that iconic series is doing now.
Colin Firth (Mr. Darcy)
Colin Firth is still regarded by many as the quintessential Mr. Darcy. He later played a contemporary version in the Bridget Jones's Diary films. His career has flourished, winning an Oscar for The King's Speech (2010). Other notable roles include The Staircase, Young Sherlock, Disclosure Day, and Operation Mincemeat, where he starred alongside fellow Mr. Darcy actor Matthew Macfadyen.
In 2019, Firth separated from his wife Livia Giuggioli after more than 20 years of marriage. The couple have two children.
Jennifer Ehle (Elizabeth Bennet)
Jennifer Ehle, who played Elizabeth Bennet, has continued to earn critical acclaim. Her recent projects include Taylor Sheridan's 1923 with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, Paramount's Lioness, and The Vampire Lestat. She was married to writer Michael Ryan from 2001 to 2025; they have two children.
Susannah Harker (Jane Bennet)
Susannah Harker, known for House of Cards, played the kind-hearted Jane Bennet. She has appeared in Heat of the Sun, Ultraviolet, Waking the Dead, and had small roles in Grantchester, Midsomer Murders, and New Tricks. Fans were excited when she announced a film with her Mr. Bingley co-star Crispin Bonham-Carter called Jane Bennet's Second Spring.
Julia Sawalha (Lydia Bennet)
Julia Sawalha's portrayal of the impulsive Lydia Bennet was acclaimed, contrasting with her role as Saffy in Absolutely Fabulous. She later appeared in Chicken Run, Jonathan Creek, and Lark Rise to Candleford. More recently, she had supporting roles in Father Brown and Vera.
Alison Steadman (Mrs. Bennet)
Alison Steadman's Mrs. Bennet remains a favorite. She has continued to win fans through roles in Gavin & Stacey and the BBC comedy Here We Go. Steadman recently suffered a serious fall at a Dubai restaurant but has since shared that she is recovering well.
Adrian Lukis (Mr. Wickham)
Adrian Lukis, who played the charming rogue Mr. Wickham, continues to act. His recent credits include The Bombing of Pan Am 103, The War Between the Land and the Sea, SAS Rogue Heroes, and The Marlow Murder Club. He also reprised his role in his one-man stage show Being Mr Wickham in London's West End.
Crispin Bonham-Carter (Mr. Bingley)
Crispin Bonham-Carter, who played the affable Mr. Bingley, has appeared in Game-On, Coronation Street: After Hours, Bridget Jones's Diary, Absolutely Fabulous, Casino Royale, and No Angels. He will star in Jane Bennet's Second Spring with Susannah Harker. He left acting to train as a teacher in 2007-2008 and now works as a head teacher, which he called his dream job.
David Bamber (Mr. Collins)
David Bamber's socially awkward Mr. Collins is still loved. He continues to feature in major projects, including Valkyrie, HBO's The Regime, Enola Holmes, and Flesh and Blood.
Lucy Briers (Mary Bennet)
Lucy Briers, who played Mary Bennet, returned to the spotlight as Mrs. Hill in the BBC's The Other Bennet Sister. The daughter of Richard Briers and Ann Davies has starred in House of the Dragon, Gentleman Jack, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, and Lockwood & Co. She admitted at the Hay Festival that she hadn't read Pride and Prejudice before getting the part, preferring dystopian stories.
Anna Chancellor (Caroline Bingley)
Anna Chancellor, known for Four Weddings and a Funeral, played the jealous Caroline Bingley. She has been consistently busy, with recent roles in The Girlfriend, Outrageous, My Lady Jane, The Split, and Pennyworth. She reunited with Colin Firth in What a Girl Wants. In 2023, she announced the death of her only daughter Poppy, aged 36, from leukaemia, saying: “Poppy was and is an unbelievable life force of creativity, compassion, wit, beauty and sheer uniqueness. She transformed our lives, and we are beyond grateful.”
Benjamin Whitrow (Mr. Bennet)
Benjamin Whitrow, who played the aloof Mr. Bennet, continued acting in The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling, Island at War, The Musketeers, Darkest Hour, Toast of London, and his final role in Wolf Hall. He died in 2017 at age 80 from a brain haemorrhage. He was previously married to Catherine Cook, with whom he had two children, and later was with Celia Imrie, sharing son Angus Imrie.
