A public relations specialist has suggested that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could produce a documentary about their return to the United Kingdom to help win over the public. Brand Shaw, who has advised The Obamas and Disney executives, proposed that a "film or documentary series" about the couple's homecoming could aid their image.
Advice to Become the 'Anti-Kardashians'
Shaw believes Harry, Meghan, and their family should be regarded as the "anti-Kardashians" by confronting the "hard questions" the public harbours regarding their 2020 "Megxit" to California. He emphasised the importance of controlling the narrative.
"They haven't controlled the narrative, which we've established, and they don't seem to have a narrative. Those are two different problems," said Shaw. "So, not being able to communicate your narrative is a big, big, big issue. It's an issue in Hollywood. It's an issue where it didn't work out. Here, it's an issue why Hollywood was able to come after them."
Answering Hard Questions
Shaw advised the couple to provide "really smart" answers to "hard" questions. "Make a story that answers the hardest of hard questions anyone could possibly ask you, and use the next three to five years to refer back to that," he said.
"When someone says, 'Why'd you leave? Why'd you come back? I guess it wasn't so bad.' You have a movie or a product to point at any reporter, any questioner, any person who sees you when you're walking around England," Shaw explained.
Controlling the Narrative
Shaw stressed the significance of controlling the narrative. "People buying books and making money is still not controlling the narrative. It is often confused, right? Lots of numeric sales of anything does not mean you're in control of the narrative," he said.
He proposed that the "singular thing" Harry and Meghan should do "in the next six to nine months, maximum" is to "create a product that tells their narrative from their perspective." He urged them to have something they can "refer back to" whenever necessary.
Shaw posed his own hypothetical questions for the couple, including "Why'd you leave England? Why are you coming back?" He stated, "Just tell me. Don't give me a sound bite. Don't tell me how it's gonna appear on TV. Just tell me - and if you can't answer that, the problem is much more than a PR problem."
He affirmed, "They come in and they say, 'let's appear at some high society events and make sure our PR people get a couple of tabloid photographers there, so it looks like we know the right people in Hollywood or in the UK, or the right people to tell the right story.' They should stop all of that right now."
The pair had previously launched Harry and Meghan, a 2022 Netflix series which generated a tepid reaction from audiences and created difficulties within the Royal family.
