Perrie Edwards Cried All Day Over Missing Necklace Before Wedding

Perrie Edwards has revealed that she “cried all day” before walking down the aisle, after believing that a precious gift from husband Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had been stolen.

The Wings singer married the former England footballer, 32, in a sun-soaked ceremony in Portugal last weekend, four years after announcing their engagement. They were surrounded by their friends and family - including her Little Mix bandmates - as they said their vows.

However, speaking about their wedding in a new interview, the 32-year-old revealed that a poignant gift from her partner - who she shares children Axel and Alanis with - went missing shortly before they made the journey to Estoi.

“Alex gave me a diamond necklace after I gave birth to Axel and I wear it every single day, but the day before I came away to Portugal it went missing,” she recalled. “I cried all day, we looked everywhere – we even checked the hoover – but it was gone. I was convinced someone had stolen it.”

Thankfully, Perrie’s hairstylist, Aaron Carlo, who also dressed her for the nuptials, came to the rescue just hours before their ceremony was due to start. “He was sorting through my hair extensions and he said, ‘Okay, Perrie: what I’m about to show you is your something old, your something new, your everything in one, and you’re going to cry,’” she continued, explaining that he found the bling in the hair. “I sobbed,” she added to British Vogue. “I was so happy and so relieved. It set the tone – I knew from that moment it was going to be the best day ever.”

Perrie has been with Celtics player Alex since 2017 - the pair welcomed son Axel into the world in 2021, a year before getting engaged. Earlier this year, they added to their brood with daughter Alanis Valentine, confirming her arrival on Instagram in January.

Just days before their wedding, the X Factor winner shared a comment on the “healthy” relationship she shares with the athlete, following a tough, rollercoaster engagement to Zayn Malik more than a decade ago. “Now that I've experienced what healthy love is, with Alex, it's so nice,” she told Jamie Laing on the Good Company podcast. “It doesn't make you feel sick to your stomach all the time, it doesn't make you feel icky. It doesn't make you feel like you're not worthy or you're not good enough, or you could be doing everything better. It doesn't feel competitive, it doesn't feel toxic. That's exactly what I would say it was.”
