Perez Hilton's sister has given a haunting account of the star's shocking livestream last week after revealing she was in the house when it happened. The former Celebrity Big Brother star, 48, was rushed to hospital after police received multiple emergency calls about his welfare during a concerning TikTok live broadcast. The Mirror has chosen not to publish clips from the alarming stream, which reportedly show Perez covered in what appears to be blood while brandishing a knife.
Sister's account of the incident
Perez's younger sister, Barbara Lavandeira, says the star's three children—Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, eight—as well as his niece and Barbara herself, were at the house during the incident. Barbara, 42, says she was concerned for Perez's well-being before bursting into his bathroom and seeing him "standing in front of the shower, naked, cut up, covered in blood, with a box cutter in his hand," reports Page Six. Claiming his eyes "didn't look the same," she says she immediately took the children out of the house for safety.
Recalling the horrific incident, Barbara said: "I unlocked his bedroom door and realised he was inside the bathroom. I knocked several more times and told him I was going to come in if he didn't open the door. He still didn't answer, so I unlocked it." Entering the room, her "nightmare became a reality" as she saw the celebrity blogger covered in blood, grasping a box cutter by the shower.
Family's response and update
Barbara, who was visiting from California, said she attempted to stem her brother's bleeding with towels while waiting for the ambulance. She shared: "He had already lost a significant amount of blood, yet he was somehow still able to speak, although his voice was very faint." She added that the tragic day, August 4, "will forever be one of the darkest days my family and I have ever experienced."
On Wednesday, Perez's family said that he is able to communicate, giving fans an update. They said: "Our family wants to once again thank everyone who has reached out with prayers, kind messages, and support for Perez. Your compassionate humanity during this profoundly heartbreaking time has meant more than words can express. This has been incredibly difficult and emotional for us, made even harder because very little information has been made available to our family. While we continue to wait for further updates, we remain hopeful. We have also been able to confirm that Perez is able to communicate, which has given our family hope. We respectfully ask for your continued prayers, understanding, and grace as Perez continues to recover. We will share additional updates as we receive confirmed information and are able to do so. For now, we're taking things one step at a time and keeping our focus where it belongs, on Perez and his recovery."
The family also noted that Teresita Lavandeira, Perez's mother, is now reported to have temporary custody of Perez's children.
