The family of Perez Hilton has revealed that his children, niece, and sister fled his home when the celebrity blogger began harming himself during a mental health crisis earlier this week. The incident occurred just minutes before a public TikTok livestream in which Hilton, 48, brandished a knife and appeared covered in blood.
Family's Account of the Incident
In a statement posted on Hilton's website, the family expressed gratitude for the support they have received but detailed the traumatic events. They said: "Just minutes before the public livestream incident, Perez’s children, niece, and sister were inside the home. When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma."
Hilton, a single father to Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and eight-year-old Mayte, had shocked fans during the livestream, prompting "multiple" emergency calls to police. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's office responded but did not confront Hilton immediately, instead using crisis intervention techniques to de-escalate the situation.
Police Response and Family's Request for Privacy
Licensed mental health professionals remained at the scene to provide support. The sheriff's office stated: "In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritise de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication."
The family concluded their statement by asking for privacy, saying: "Please allow his children the privacy and space they need during this unimaginably difficult time." They also requested that media and the public leave the area around the family's home to help the children "begin rebuilding a sense of security and normalcy."
