In an exclusive revelation, actress Patsy Kensit has broken her silence on her past romance with Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, describing it as a "magical" period nearly two decades after their split. The 58-year-old star, known for her roles in Emmerdale and EastEnders, opened up about the relationship in a candid interview, shedding light on their time as a 1990s power couple.
A Rock and Roll History
Patsy Kensit is no stranger to the rock and roll lifestyle, having grown up as a child star before marrying musicians Dan Donovan, Simple Minds singer Jim Kerr, and later Oasis icon Liam Gallagher. She shares a 32-year-old son, James, with Jim Kerr and a 26-year-old son, Lennon, with Liam Gallagher. Reflecting on her youngest son's experience, Kensit expressed joy that Lennon witnessed Oasis's magic firsthand during the band's iconic reunion tour last year.
When asked about Lennon's enjoyment of the tour, Kensit said, "He did, and it's fantastic. I think it's wonderful. I'm so happy for Lennon that he's had that experience of going to see them live." This moment highlights the enduring connection between her family and the music world, despite the passage of time.
The 1990s Romance: A Magical Era
Patsy and Liam's relationship began in 1995 after meeting on a plane, quickly becoming a defining couple of the 1990s. They planned to marry in early 1997 but cancelled the wedding due to intense media scrutiny and pressure. Instead, they opted for a secret ceremony two months later. Their marriage lasted less than three years, and Kensit has previously claimed no contact with Gallagher for 26 years.
However, looking back on that era, Kensit reminisced, "It was such a magical time, the 90s. It was an epic era. I've seen the magic and I love the music." Her words evoke a nostalgic appreciation for a period marked by cultural significance and personal highs, even amidst the challenges of fame.
New Adventures on BBC Pilgrimage
Beyond her past, Kensit is currently embracing new challenges as a participant in the eighth series of the BBC reality show Pilgrimage: The Road to Holy Island. The show features celebrities trekking through the countryside from Northumberland to Lindisfarne, engaging in spiritual discussions along the way. Kensit described the experience as tough but "wonderful," highlighting the physical and emotional demands of the journey.
She shared the pilgrimage with fellow stars, including Diversity's Ashley Banjo, former Love Islander Tasha Ghouri, and Cold Feet actress Hermione Norris. Kensit humorously noted that one of her co-stars became her "carer" during a particularly steep climb, showcasing the camaraderie developed during the show.
Balancing Motherhood and Career
Despite the adventure, Kensit faced personal challenges, such as missing her youngest son Lennon's 26th birthday while filming. She admitted, "Being away for my youngest son Lennon's 26th birthday was tough. I missed that, so that day I was quite sad. I could speak to him on the phone and all that, of course. And look, he's a grown man, he's off doing his own thing. But he's still my baby, so that was a moment for me."
Reflecting on the overall experience, she added, "But the whole experience was incredible. Every day you got something different out of it. And there are times when you're walking every day in the wind and the cold, and it does knock it out of you. But I absolutely loved it. We found out so much about each other during the process. We were very, very lucky. Everybody did seem to really vibe."
Patsy Kensit's career, which began as a child actress with roles in films like Absolute Beginners, continues to evolve with projects like Pilgrimage. Her openness about her past with Liam Gallagher and her current endeavors offers a glimpse into a life shaped by fame, family, and resilience.
