Katie Mittell, the daughter of Welsh entertainer Owen Money, appeared on ITV's The Voice UK this weekend, but her performance did not go as planned. The 42-year-old professional female vocalist from Port Talbot performed for coaches will.i.am, Kelly Rowland, Sir Tom Jones, Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher during Saturday's episode.
No chairs turned for Katie Mittell
Owen watched side stage with Katie's three children as she sang Wicked Game by Chris Isaak in hopes of advancing in the competition. However, none of the coaches pushed their button to turn their chair, forcing Katie to head home disappointed.
After walking off stage, Katie told the cameras: "Everything I was going out to do I didn't do but it is what it is." Despite the audience shouting for the coaches to press the new rewind button, the coaches decided not to use it.
Coaches explain their decisions
McFly's Tom said: "She just didn't connect emotionally with me" as he explained why he didn't push his button. Sir Tom added: "Honestly, there were some nice things there. She's just nervous." Danny added: "I felt the passion but just not enough."
Katie's dad Owen, real name Lynn Mittell, is a musician, actor, comedian, and radio presenter from Merthyr Tydfil. The pair often perform together, with Owen making crowds laugh with comedy before Katie comes out as a Cher tribute act.
Owen Money's career highlights
According to her Instagram page, Katie has over 20 years of experience in the industry. Owen toured the club circuit as a comedian, winning the Club Land Comedian of the Year award and performing alongside Shirley Bassey and The Voice coach Sir Tom.
In 1987, he joined BBC Radio Wales with the weekly programme Money for Nothing, which gained popularity through 1997 to win two gold Sony Radio Awards, one for Regional Broadcaster of the Year and the other for Best Music Sequence Programme of the Year. Money regularly appears with his band the Travelling Wrinklies and takes the "Owen Money Laughter Show" to venues around Wales and South West England.
Under his given name of Lynn Mittell, Owen was awarded an MBE in the Queen's 2007 New Year Honours. The citation reads: "Radio Presenter and Comedy Music Performer. For services to entertainment in Wales." The Voice UK airs Saturday nights on ITV1 and ITVX.
