Rockers Only The Poets have announced a headline show at London's O2 Brixton where tickets will cost just £1, bucking the trend of rising concert prices. The gig, set for February 2 next year, comes days after the release of their debut album, And I'd Do It Again, and supports the LIVE Trust.
Frontman Tommy Longhurst, guitarist Clem Cherry, bassist Andy 'Roo' Burge, and drummer Marcus Yates have spent seven years building the band, supporting the likes of Louis Tomlinson, Yungblud, Lewis Capaldi, and Bastille. Longhurst described the Brixton venue as "the destination for us, that's the dream, that's the goal."
"It's a rite of passage in the UK, it's a phenomenal venue," Longhurst said backstage at their Berlin gig. "We've felt very inspired in that room, so to be going there and doing a show... it's a celebration of our journey and our album – we couldn't think of a better place to do it, it's our dream venue."
The band are passionate about making music accessible regardless of socio-economic status. "Music for us in our early years was so important, especially live music," Longhurst explained, adding that they want the night to be an "escapism" for fans. Cherry said concerts are "where we made our friends, it's where you go to let go and escape, and it's where we got our inspiration to start picking up instruments."
On the album, Longhurst described it as "a time capsule of our journey as a band for the last seven years," noting the track "Emotionally Hungover" explores how emotions can leave you feeling "rough". Cherry added that the record came together naturally: "The whole process of putting it together has just been so natural. We never really sat out like 'Right, it's time to make an album'... it felt like it was a really natural, organic process."
