Call the Midwife star Olly Rix engaged to Casualty co-star Anna Chell

Call the Midwife star Olly Rix has announced his engagement to actress Anna Chell, his co-star on the BBC medical drama Casualty. The couple shared the news on Instagram on Monday, January 19, with a photo of Rix kissing Chell on the forehead.

Rix, 40, who played Matthew Aylward on Call the Midwife, captioned the post with an engagement ring emoji and a red heart. The announcement was met with an outpouring of support from fans and fellow actors, including Sammy Dobson, who plays Nicole Piper on Casualty, who commented: 'ARGHHHH!!!! THIS IS SO, SO LUSH!!! Congratulations!!!'

Rix first appeared on Call the Midwife in 2021 and became a series regular in season 11 after his character became romantically involved with Trixie Franklin. He left the show in 2024, with Matthew moving to New York. He joined Casualty in early 2025, where he reportedly met Chell on set.

Chell, 29, made her television debut in the ITV drama The Bay in 2022 and was cast as Jodie Whyte on Casualty in 2023. The couple had previously confirmed their romance in August 2025, when Chell shared photos of them together on Instagram.
