A long-simmering feud between rappers Cardi B and Nicki Minaj escalated into a physical altercation at a New York Fashion Week party on Friday evening. The incident occurred at the Harper's Bazaar ICONS party, where Christina Aguilera was performing.
According to celebrity website TMZ, the scuffle began when Cardi B approached Minaj over alleged lies being spread. Cardi B was reportedly elbowed in the face by a security guard before throwing a red-heeled shoe at Minaj, who appeared unharmed. Cardi B was escorted out barefoot with a bump above her eye.
Eyewitnesses told US media that reality TV star Rah Ali, a friend of Minaj, stepped between the two rappers during the altercation on the first-floor balcony. Social media video shows Cardi B lunging forward after Ali intervened.
Both stars took to social media after the clash. Minaj shared pictures of herself posing in a leopard print ball gown. Cardi B addressed the incident in an Instagram statement, without naming Minaj directly, saying she had let many things slide but drew the line at comments about her daughter Kulture, born in July.
Cardi B accused Minaj of threatening other artists in the industry, allegedly telling them not to work with Cardi B. She also referenced previous in-person confrontations that were defused. The feud has been ongoing, with subtle digs in each other's lyrics, though both had previously denied a rift.
