Nick Jonas has revealed he wanted to star in Frozen but “bombed” his audition. The Jonas Brothers star, 33, auditioned for the role of Kristoff, who was played by Jonathan Groff in the 2013 Disney film.
The actor told the story on his Hey Jonas! podcast, which he hosts with his brothers Kevin and Joe, when Frozen stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad appeared as guests.
Audition mishap
He said: “I went in for Kristoff. I went in and they said, ‘OK, what are you going to be singing today?’ “I said, ‘Oh, I don’t know.’ They said, ‘What do you mean you don’t know?’ They’re like, ‘Do you have your sheet music?’ And I said, ‘No, no one told me I had.…,’ and so I just said, ‘Can you play something from,’ I don’t know what I said, some musical theatre song. And I bombed the audition. It was terrible.”
Bell, who plays Anna in the franchise, replied: “That must have been why you didn’t get it.” Gad, who plays Olaf, joked: “Look, I’ll say it here. You have such better chemistry with Kristen than Groff”, which made everyone laugh.
Playful response
Jonas playfully replied: “I love Jonathan Groff, but I do think it would have been better to cast me.” Kevin asked his brother if he ever worked with the team he was with at the time again. Jonas replied: “I’ve changed agencies three times since then.”
Despite not getting the role, Jonas said he “really enjoyed” watching the film. Frozen grossed £885 million at the global box office and the 2019 sequel, Frozen 2, made £1 billion. A third and fourth film are currently in development.
