Nick Cannon has admitted to a "double standard" in his parenting approach, revealing he encourages his 15-year-old son to date while forbidding his twin daughter from doing the same.
During an appearance on The TMZ Podcast on May 2, the father of 12 said he has allowed and encouraged Moroccan's dating. But when asked about Monroe, he responded "absolutely not." He acknowledged the inconsistency, saying there is a difference between parenting a son and a daughter.
Cannon explained his stance stems from protectiveness, saying he feels a stronger responsibility to shield his daughter from harm. He spoke of his fears, warning that if any man laid hands on his daughter, he would end up in jail.
The television host, who shares the twins with ex-wife Mariah Carey, has faced criticism for his unconventional family dynamic. In a 2025 interview, he said his approach to fatherhood was shaped by his split from Mariah. His daughter Monroe recently clarified on Instagram that she has only one full brother, with her other siblings being half-siblings.
In a separate interview with Vulture in July 2025, Cannon described his 12 children as a "by-product" of his eagerness to appease women he was dating or friends who wanted children. He also addressed having five children in a single year, calling it "careless activity."
