Netflix Monster Lizzie Borden Trailer Sparks Fan Theory on Next Season
Netflix Monster Lizzie Borden Trailer Sparks Fan Theory

Netflix has released a new trailer for the latest season of the Monster anthology series, titled The Lizzie Borden Story. The series comes from Ryan Murphy, known for American Horror Story, The Beauty, and All's Fair.

Previous seasons of Monster have focused on notorious true crime cases and killers, including Jeffrey Dahmer, Erik and Lyle Menendez, and Ed Gein. This season examines the infamous case of Lizzie Borden, who was accused of killing her father and stepmother with a hatchet in 1892.

Trailer Shows Grim Scenes and New Cast

The new trailer does not hold back in portraying how it thinks the events unfolded. Fans get a closer look at Ella Beatty, daughter of Hollywood stars Annette Bening and Warren Beatty, as Borden. Charlie Hunnam, who previously played Ed Gein, appears as her father.

For the first time, Vicky Krieps is also shown in a dual role as the family housemaid and Elizabeth Bathory, another alleged serial killer. She appears to talk to Borden and encourages the murder of her parents. Krieps played Ilse Koch in The Ed Gein Story, who was a figure of inspiration for the main character in that series.

Final Moments Spark Fan Theory

The final moments of the trailer caught the most attention from fans. The scene is set far removed from the events of the Borden killings, noted by a cardboard cutout in the background of Beatty as Borden. It appears to be set in the actual house, which has since become a place the public can visit and is referred to as the most haunted house in the United States.

Sarah Paulson, who has appeared in several Ryan Murphy-produced series, takes centre stage. She is playing Aileen Wuornos, a serial killer who killed seven men between 1989 and 1990. Wuornos's crimes have been the subject of docuseries and films, including one called Monster released in 2003, where Charlize Theron played Wuornos.

Fans Predict Season Five Focus

Fans have shared their theory that season five of Netflix's Monster could focus on Wuornos and her grisly crimes. One person commented: "Can’t wait!! So excited. Oh is the ending on the teaser of the next monster? I feel like it is!!" Another agreed: "Oh, I know what series they’re definitely doing next with Sarah Paulson."

Others were already gripped by the footage, with one saying: "This looks absolutely chilling." Another added: "Hmm this looks horrific and I am liking it!" While someone else said: "Netflix really knows how to make historical true crime feel terrifying. This one looks seriously dark."

Netflix has since confirmed Paulson is indeed playing Wuornos in a social media post. However, it is not yet known how much she will appear in the series or if anything is being saved for a follow-up. Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story is streaming on Netflix from September 17.
