Neighbours Star Julian McMahon Buried in Paupers Funeral

Julian McMahon, the Australian actor best known for roles in Neighbours, Home and Away, and Nip/Tuck, has died of cancer at the age of 56. His funeral was a modest affair, described as a paupers burial, reflecting the actor's final years away from the Hollywood spotlight.

McMahon began his career as a model, appearing in 1987 Levi's commercials, which led to roles in Australian soaps The Power, The Passion and Home and Away. He played Ben Lucini in Home and Away, a soldier who marries Carly Morris, a storyline that attracted over 12 million ITV viewers in Britain.

He later moved to the US, where he appeared in Another World and Profiler before achieving global fame as Dr Christian Troy in Nip/Tuck. The show was a ratings hit, becoming the most-watched cable programme of 2003. McMahon also played Cole Turner in Charmed and Doctor Doom in the Fantastic Four films.

McMahon was born in Sydney, the son of former Australian prime minister William McMahon. He studied economics briefly before pursuing modelling and acting. His marriage to Dannii Minogue ended in divorce after a year, with Minogue citing a lack of acceptance from his mother.

In his later years, McMahon appeared in TV series such as Runaways, FBI, and the Netflix comedy The Residence. Despite his Hollywood success, his final send-off was a simple one, with few details released about the service.
