Atomic Kitten star Natasha Hamilton has opened up about the possibility of a reunion with bandmates Liz McClarnon and Jenny Frost, sparked by England's promising performance in the World Cup. In a new interview, she revealed that a full-scale comeback is unlikely, but a one-off farewell show could be on the cards.
World Cup Nostalgia and Reunion Rumours
The speculation comes after the success of their 2020 Euros remake, 'Southgate You're The One', which re-entered the UK Top 20. Reflecting on that moment, Natasha said: "'Southgate You're The One' only happened because me and Liz were booked to do Boxpark and we sing three songs and they were like, 'would you mind doing the Southgate version today for the fans?' And we were like, 'not a problem!'. And it went viral!"
Challenges of a Full Reunion
Speaking on the 2000s pop music podcast Right Back At Ya!, Natasha, who released her debut EP Extraction on Friday, explained the hurdles. "Anything to do with Atomic Kitten - it's chaos. It's never just chill. It is all or nothing. It just felt like we were all going to have to give up our lives to make this work." She noted that while she and Liz live in the UK and have performed together for years, Jenny Frost has been based in Ibiza. "She'd have to spend so much time away from her family. I was like, 'I get it. This is not that easy for you.'"
A One-Off Farewell?
Natasha suggested a limited reunion: "That's one of the main reasons why, if we were to do something, I can't see it ever being a prolonged thing but I would love a one-off farewell. If we did it, it would be one night and one night only - and that's it." She jokingly added, "I would happily move to Ibiza to make this work for Jen! Just putting it out there!"
Axed Lesbian Scene in 'Be With You' Video
In the same interview, Natasha revealed that the record label blocked a planned lesbian scene for her in the music video for their hit 'Be With You'. "In the video for Be With You, my scene was supposed to be me and a girl. That was what the video director wanted but the record label went, 'Absolutely not!'" She explained that while the other girls had scenes with boys, she was left alone. "For some reason I was filming last, there was no one there other than the crew and me. The girls are in scenes with boys and I'm not gonna be 'Billy no-mates' like 'no one wants to be with Tash!'"
Natasha expressed disappointment, saying she would have loved to represent the LGBTQ+ community. "Of course, it would have been amazing! And I'm like, 'Guys, I just had a baby! It doesn't matter. It's representation!' But no, the label were having none of it."
