Gardener's World star Monty Don has announced the death of his beloved dog Patti, who had featured on the hit show, after a short illness. The TV presenter shared the news today, saying his whole family was heartbroken by her passing.

In a statement, Monty wrote: "I have sad news. Our lovely Patti died suddenly this morning after a very short illness. She was much loved, and lit up our lives. We are all heartbroken."
Patti, a Yorkshire Terrier, had appeared on and off the show since 2020. She was the smallest of Monty's dogs, with the TV star also owning Golden Retriever Ned, who also appears on screen.

In 2023, Monty revealed that an accident during lockdown had led to Patti retreating from camera life. Replying to a worried fan online, he explained: "She hates the tripods because one fell on her during lockdown. That is why you always see me holding her. When the cameras are not here she is out with me all the time."
Monty's Golden Retriever Nigel died in 2020, and his dog Nell died three years later.
