Sarah Moore is back on BBC One this weekend as a new season of Money for Nothing gets underway. The series sees the presenter intercept people at waste disposal centres and hand their discarded items to specialist designers, who turn them into something spectacular.
Moore's route to the small screen began with selling vintage-inspired creations at craft fairs and winning the first series of The Great Interior Design Challenge in 2014. She went on to launch an upcycling business and host Money for Nothing as well as Channel 4's Home Greek Home, where she renovated a derelict property in Skiathos. The concept for Money for Nothing, on air since 2015, came to her after she visited a recycling centre and left with someone else's old Christmas decorations.
Silver medal for marriage
Earlier this summer, Moore celebrated a quarter of a century of marriage to her husband Pete. On Instagram, she shared a series of photos of the couple and wrote: "Celebrating 25 years of very happy marriage. Pete picking up his silver medal for patience, husbanding and totally backing me throughout an amazing quarter century together.
"We’ve shared this with three amazing children, a lovely family, a gathering of truly special friends across many countries and some great colleagues at work. Here’s to the next 25 and Pete’s Gold medal."
A chef before an upcycler
Long before she became known for transforming pre-loved furniture, Moore trained as a chef. She told Emma Varnam: "I ran a full on top flight kitchen for an events company in the middle of London.
"For about 12 years I worked a very hard cooking and later designing menus with fabulous company Lettice. I designed service equipment, food installations and cooked for hundreds and sometimes thousands of people. A lot of hard graft, but a lot of fun and great team work and sense of achievement."
Moore also shared how her childhood shaped her interest in interiors: "I think that living in the middle of nowhere as a child you had to find your own occupations to keep your self busy." She added: "I have always been a bit of a magpie, gathering interesting things on walks, or pebbles on beaches and then turning them into things that I like the look of."
Arundel cottage rental
Alongside her TV work, Moore runs a rental cottage at 15 Bond Street in the Cathedral Quarter of Arundel. The newly renovated property is described as a "unique retreat". Its listing reads: "The newly renovated little house at 15 Bond Street is the perfect ‘get away from it all’ venue perched in the Cathedral quarter of the old town and is second home to interiors enthusiast and TV presenter Sarah Moore, whose trademark recycled style is featured throughout the property."
The cottage is furnished with vintage and antique furniture and original artwork, plus a kitchen that "reflects Sarah’s early life as a professional chef". Rentals are managed by The Butler Collection, with full details available on their website and on the 15 Bond Street Instagram page.
