Love Island sensation and creative director of PrettyLittleThing, Molly-Mae Hague, has found herself at the centre of a social media firestorm after making comments about the lavish gifts she receives for her baby daughter, Bambi.
The influencer, who shares her daughter with boxer Tommy Fury, prompted a fierce backlash from parents across the UK after a recent YouTube video. In the video, she addressed the perception that her child is 'spoiled' with extravagant presents, claiming the items are "not that crazy" and that she is "not just showering her with gifts."
A Wave of Parental Fury
Her remarks did not sit well with viewers, particularly those struggling amidst the ongoing cost of living crisis. Many took to social media to brand the 24-year-old's comments as "out of touch" and "tone-deaf."
One frustrated parent commented, "Try living in the real world Molly… some parents are struggling to afford basic essentials." Another added, "The privilege is screaming. She has no idea what normal people are going through."
Defending Her Position
In her video, Molly-Mae attempted to clarify her stance, insisting that most of the items Bambi receives are practical. "A lot of the things that I get sent are nappies, wipes, formula, food… things that she needs," she explained.
She also expressed her discomfort with the 'spoilt' label, stating, "It makes me feel a little bit sad... I'm her mum, I'm going to give her the world." Despite her explanation, the defence did little to quell the anger from sections of her audience.
The incident highlights the growing tension and divide between the seemingly limitless world of influencer wealth and the everyday realities faced by millions of families in Britain today.
