Mindy Kaling Addresses B.J. Novak Romance Rumours and Single Life

Mindy Kaling has spoken out about the persistent speculation surrounding her relationship with former co-star B.J. Novak, describing him as a 'huge part' of her and her children's lives. The 46-year-old actress, known for her role in The Office, addressed the rumours in a new interview with Bustle.

Kaling and Novak, who met on the set of the hit sitcom in 2004, have long been the subject of public curiosity due to their close bond. They dated on and off for three years before settling into a platonic friendship, which Novak once described as 'pretty inseparable'. Kaling has previously characterised their relationship as a 'romantically charged camaraderie with loud arguments'.

Speculation intensified after Kaling became a mother to three children, Katherine, 7, Spencer, 5, and Anne, 2, without revealing the father's identity. Novak is godfather to all three and is frequently seen with the family, leading fans to theorise he might be the father. However, Kaling clarified that she is single and Novak is simply a supportive figure.

'He really is in our family, and I love talking about him because my kids adore him, and he’s such a huge part of our life,' she said. 'But I also know that it gives people a lot of ideas.' Kaling explained that she keeps the father's identity private to protect her children's privacy, saying, 'The ramifications are so immediate for them.'

The Mindy Project star also opened up about being a single mother, admitting it 'felt really crazy' to her as she never considered herself a 'kid person' despite always wanting children. She added that she is 'very happy and content without a partner' and currently has no romantic crushes.
