Miley Cyrus has branded Alex Cooper “kind of creepy” after the podcaster moved next door to her. The singer made the comment during the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which premiered on Tuesday.
Cyrus, 33, said she chose the Call Her Daddy star to host the reunion because she knew Cooper was a huge fan of the original Disney Channel show. “And Alex being a superfan, kinda creepy,” she teased onstage, prompting audience laughter. “She’s also my neighbour, which is also creepy. She got money, and then she moved next door to me.”
The pop star noted that Cooper, 31, seemed surprised when she realised she had moved into a house in Cyrus’s Los Angeles neighbourhood, until Cyrus reminded her that she had been to her home before for a podcast interview in 2020. Cyrus bought her ranch in Studio City in 2011, while Cooper moved into the area in 2022 with her now-husband Matt Kaplan.
Cyrus continued: “But anyways, thank you for being this host. Thank you for being so insanely dedicated to Hannah Montana.” The singer had previously poked fun at Cooper in a Variety video, where she quizzed Cooper on the lyrics to the Hannah Montana song “Rockstar” – which Cooper has tattooed on her arms – and found she did not know them.
Cooper helped Cyrus plan the special, which is available on Disney+, by telling her what fans would want to see, including a guest appearance by Selena Gomez and nostalgic details like the show’s transition music. Hannah Montana ran from 2006 to 2011, following Cyrus’s teenage character Miley Stewart living a double life as a high school student and pop star.
