Melanie Sykes has proudly flaunted her freshly shaved head on Instagram after losing two-thirds of her hair to alopecia. The former The Vault host, 55, posted the snap as a form of "Monday motivation" for her followers as she returned to work.
Embracing the Bald Look
Taking to her social media on Monday (July 6), Melanie posed for the camera with a cheeky smile, proudly showing off her new look. She captioned the post: "Divine Timing," adding hashtags such as #itsathing #workout #mondaymotivations #beginagain, along with arm muscle emojis. Wearing a pink vest top, she opted to disable comments to avoid potentially hurtful remarks. This is not the first time she has showcased her bald look, having premiered it the previous week.
Battle with Alopecia
Melanie has been open about her alopecia battle since being diagnosed in April last year. The condition causes hair loss, and she revealed that before shaving her head, she had lost two-thirds of her hair. In December, she shared an update, stating: "I am not well, as you know, I've been ill all year. I've got a condition. I'm losing my hair. I keep having crazy, like, all over everything, and I'm working on healing."
Additional Health Challenges
In addition to alopecia, Melanie was later diagnosed with a heart condition that causes palpitations and inflammation on her body. Despite these challenges, she remains positive, describing her experience as "post-traumatic growth." She explained: "Even the most difficult times do pass, they do, and I just want to use this term post traumatic growth, it's real, you can be suffering from PTSD but still at the same time be experiencing post traumatic growth. I'm in both camps because you can be both things at once, as long as I attend to myself and what makes me happy and feel grief about whatever has gone on and process it and move on from it."
