Mel C, the former Spice Girl known as Sporty Spice, celebrated her 50th birthday with a star-studded performance at London's Koko club. Dressed in a black ensemble with a matching leather jacket, she showcased her toned figure and trademark stomach tattoo while treating the audience to several songs.
The event drew a host of celebrity guests, including fellow Spice Girl Emma Bunton, Nicole and Natalie Appleton, Ricky Wilson, Kate Thornton, and former EastEnders actress Tamzin Outhwaite. Emma Bunton joined Mel C on stage for a duet, and the Appleton sisters also performed alongside her.
Fans took to social media to express disbelief at Mel C's age. One wrote on X: 'I refuse to believe that Mel C is 50 today. In my head she's still doing backflips in tracksuits.' Another commented: 'Mel C is 50 today I’m honestly shocked.' A third added: 'Would u believe if I say that you look and sound better at 50 than in your 20s?!'
Mel C first rose to fame with the Spice Girls in 1994, and their debut single 'Wannabe' reached number one in 37 countries. The group became icons of 1990s feminism before Geri Halliwell left in 1998 and the band went on hiatus in 2000. All five members pursued successful solo careers.
The Spice Girls reunited for a world tour in 2007, selling out London's O2 arena in two minutes, and performed at the 2012 Olympic closing ceremony. In a recent interview, Mel C hinted at a possible reunion, saying: 'As we get older, the Spice Girls are learning the need to give each other space... I love it when bands get back together after a break of five or 10 years because you know they probably appreciate it more than ever.'
