Mel B has claimed that fellow Spice Girl Victoria Beckham 'knew exactly what she was doing' when she designed the dress the singer wore to receive her MBE from Prince William. The 51-year-old pop star was honoured by the heir to the throne at Buckingham Palace in 2022 for her services to charitable causes and vulnerable women.
Mel B's Top Spice Girls Memories
Reflecting on her time in the iconic girl group, Mel B named her three best memories: meeting Nelson Mandela, playing at Wembley Stadium with her bandmates, and spending a day with Prince William and Prince Harry. She told The Telegraph: 'Either meeting Nelson Mandela, playing Wembley or spending a day with Harry and William.'
Mel recalled the princes as young boys, making them peanut butter and jam sandwiches at Kensington Palace. 'They were such cute kids – I can’t remember whether it was William or Harry who had a crush on Emma [Bunton], but they were so polite and charming and gorgeous,' she said.
The MBE Dress Designed by Victoria Beckham
For her MBE ceremony, Victoria Beckham designed a vibrant red gown with a cut-out, cleavage-baring design. Mel mischievously remarked: 'The last time I saw Prince William it was when he was pinning my MBE to my chest in a dress Victoria had made for me, which was just a little bit revealing in exactly the place he pinned the medal to. Victoria knew exactly what she was doing when she designed it for me.'
Prince William's Reaction
After receiving her MBE, Mel told the PA news agency that William had 'commended me on all my work that I’ve been doing'. She added: 'He did say, “I can’t believe I’m giving you one of these – I’m delighted”, and I said, “Aw thank you” and we had a giggle.'
