Meghan Markle previously gave a brutal description of her experience attending Wimbledon alongside her sister-in-law, Princess Catherine. In a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan said: 'It's nothing like what it looks like.'
Background of the Wimbledon Visits
Meghan attended the annual tennis tournament with Catherine on two occasions – once in 2018, just weeks after her royal wedding to Prince Harry, and again in 2019, just weeks after welcoming Prince Archie. The outings were seen as a sign of bonding between the two duchesses.
The Oprah Interview Revelation
During the Sussexes' bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, while Meghan was heavily pregnant with daughter Lilibet, Oprah asked if she felt 'welcomed' by members of the Royal Family. Oprah specifically referenced the Wimbledon appearances, asking: 'Was it what it looked like? You are two sisters-in-law out there in the world, getting to know each other. Was she helping you, embracing you into the family, helping you adjust?'
Meghan responded: 'I think everyone welcomed me. When you say, 'Was it what it looked like?', my understanding and my experience of the past four years is, it's nothing like what it looks like.'
Meghan's Recent UK Visit
Meghan arrived in the UK on Friday, her first visit since 2022, accompanied by children Archie and Lilibet. Prince Harry was marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Birmingham Invictus Games. The family then travelled to meet King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, marking the first time the King has seen his two youngest grandchildren in over four years. The meeting was private, with no pictures released.
