Meghan Markle faced backlash from Sky News host Danica De Giorgio and royal commentator Kinsey Schofield after a FaceTime call from Prince Harry interrupted her appearance on MasterChef Australia.
FaceTime interruption sparks criticism
During the episode, a producer handed Meghan her phone as Harry was seen on the call. Meghan said, "Hi, my love!" and added, "We wish you were here." She explained to the judges that Harry was in Canberra meeting with military veterans, and he complimented the studio setup before being introduced to the judges and competitors.
Despite the moment appearing sweet, it drew criticism. Kinsey Schofield said: "Call me cynical, but I don't believe for a second that Prince Harry just happened to FaceTime Meghan Markle while the cameras were rolling. I think we've watched Meghan operate long enough to know that very little about the presentation of brand Meghan is accidental."
Royal commentator questions qualifications
Schofield added: "She's a total control freak if I'm being the nicest way I could possibly say it. But that gives producers a cute television moment. But more importantly, it reminds everybody why Meghan is ultimately there in the first place because of who she married. Otherwise, what qualifies her to be on that show in that position?"
Danica De Giorgio responded: "Yeah, no, she has absolutely zero qualifications other than just having made an appearance in a television series once. And well, that was a flop, and everything she's done since has been an absolute flop. But you're right, it was a bit of a jump scare."
Discussion on privacy and family photos
The pair also discussed Meghan and Harry taking their children Archie and Lilibet to Princess Diana's grave in Althorp, with Meghan sharing pictures. Schofield said: "You can't continuously monetise glimpses of your private family and then act astonished that the public is interested in your private life. Apparently, privacy means nobody else can take photographs, but Meghan's photographer is perfectly acceptable."
De Giorgio agreed: "Oh, absolutely. She is the ultimate hypocrite."
