Meghan Markle blasted over 'incredibly stupid' move

Meghan Markle has been criticized for her response to Martha Stewart's recent comments, with a royal commentator labeling her actions "incredibly stupid." The Duchess of Sussex found herself in a fresh dispute with the 85-year-old cooking legend after a source close to her dismissed Stewart's claims about their encounter.

Stewart's Account

Stewart had described meeting Meghan at a dinner party in California, where she heard the duchess discuss her recent trip to the UK. "I had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night. We were both guests at a dinner party in California. And she had just gotten back from the palace. I didn't talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it," Stewart said.

Source's Rebuttal

Days later, a source close to the duchess dismissed Stewart's account, telling the Mirror: "Meghan was asked by someone else about her European vacation and said it was nice, and that was the extent of it. I think (Ms Stewart) must have been confused."

Commentator's Criticism

Tom Sykes, European Editor at Large for The Daily Beast, criticized Meghan's decision to have a source set the record straight. "If you look carefully at what Martha actually said, she was talking in pretty vague terms. She certainly wasn't claiming Meghan was spilling every last detail of what happened at Highgrove [when the Sussexes met the King]," Sykes said.

He added: "Implying that Martha, 85, is a dotty old lady is an incredibly stupid thing to do, especially for Meghan, who enjoys very little public goodwill." Sykes suggested Meghan should have followed the late Queen's motto: "never complain, never explain."

Sykes concluded: "Meghan has made a big, big mistake here, and I don't think we've heard the end of it. It's the middle of August, traditionally a dead period for real news. If someone can get anything further out of Martha Stewart, what should have been a half-hour story will become a seven-day saga that dominates the news cycle. And how will Meghan react to that?"
