McTominay and Capaldi in Emotional Adidas World Cup Ad

Scott McTominay and Lewis Capaldi have taken center stage in a new Adidas World Cup advertisement that has left Scotland fans emotional. The campaign, titled Choose Scotland, celebrates the national team's return to football's biggest stage after nearly three decades.

Advert Blends Football and Scottish Identity

The advert features Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay walking through the streets of Naples, where he has become a fan favorite since joining the Italian champions. As he heads to the airport for the World Cup, locals greet him, shake his hand, and wave. At one point, he even grabs a slice of pizza before continuing his journey.

Scenes from Naples are intercut with memorable moments from Scotland's qualification campaign, including McTominay's stunning overhead kick against Denmark at Hampden Park and celebrations from supporters after securing a World Cup spot for the first time in 28 years. Scotland captain Andy Robertson also makes a brief appearance, calling McTominay from a taxi and asking, "Are you on your way to the airport or what?"

Lewis Capaldi Narrates with Trainspotting Vibe

Lewis Capaldi provides a voiceover monologue reminiscent of the iconic opening narration from Trainspotting. Against Iggy Pop's Lust For Life, Capaldi says: "You can be born anywhere. That's chance. The rest is choice." He continues, "Choose the sun in Naples and the rain in Glasgow. Choose heading to a World Cup. Choose tattie scones on a Tuesday and pizza on a Wednesday."

Author Irvine Welsh even makes a cameo, dressed in a salmon pink Scotland tracksuit. The monologue concludes with, "You can't choose where you're born. But you can choose who you stand with. Choose Scotland."

Fans React with Emotion and Pride

The video quickly gained traction online, with supporters flooding the comments section. Scottish radio presenter Jenni Falconer called it "Pure dead brilliant," while another fan described it as "Sensational." A third supporter wrote, "Why am I crying," alongside multiple Scotland flag emojis.

The connection between McTominay and Naples was a major talking point. Several Napoli supporters showed their backing for Scotland. One fan commented, "Our Scottish Skunizzo," while another played into the Trainspotting theme, stating, "Naples choose Scotland."

Perhaps the most heartfelt reaction came from an Italian supporter who credited McTominay for turning many Napoli fans into Scotland supporters. Translated from Italian, they wrote: "Scott what have you done to us.. we all root for Scotland. We love you."
