Roman Kemp has shared the story of a Christmas gift that left his father, Martin Kemp, in tears and caused his sister to 'hate' him ever since. The radio presenter recounted the tale while discussing sentimental presents, explaining that he managed to find a rare toy his father had always wanted as a child.
The gift in question was a Johnny 7 OMA gun, a multi-function toy from the 1960s that Martin had frequently mentioned never owning. Roman scoured eBay and eventually found one brand new in its box. 'He was crying, I even got it on video,' Roman said, adding that his sister has never forgiven him because nothing else could top that present.
Martin Kemp, the former Spandau Ballet bassist and EastEnders actor, is currently appearing on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, following in his son's footsteps. Roman, who competed in the same show in 2019, has been encouraging fans to vote for his father, revealing that Martin 'doesn't have mates' outside of his family and so the experience is especially meaningful.
Roman posted on Instagram: 'Something I have noticed is my dad keeps saying "my new friends." He genuinely doesn't have mates outside of my mum, Harley, and me, so he means it—he'll really be chuffed.' The Kemp family's emotional bond was evident as Roman shared these insights while also competing on BBC's Celebrity Race Across the World.
I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! airs nightly at 9pm on ITV1, with the spin-off show Unpacked following on ITV2. Martin remains in the jungle alongside other celebrities, with recent eliminations including Kelly Brook, Vogue Williams, Eddie Kadi, and Alex Scott.
